ADOPTION FEES
Dogs $40, Cats: $20. The fee includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations and microchipping.
TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL
- Click on Animals Available for Adoption
- Animal Information: Read the animal's profile by it's picture to see if it is available. If the profile says ADOPTION PENDING, the animal is not available for adoption because it is in the process of being adopted by another family.
- Availability: Note the animal's RELEASE DATE AND TIME. This is the date and time that the animal is available for adoption. The release date and time is exactly 72 hours after an animal is picked up as a stray. This is mandated by N.C. law in order to give owners the opportunity to reclaim their lost pet, if it is picked up as a stray animal. If the release date and time falls during a time when the Animal Shelter is not open, the animal will be available when the shelter opens on the next business day.

If your pet is missing, it may have been reported as a stray animal and picked up by Cleveland County Animal Services. Stray animals are held for 72 hours before being available for adoption to give owners the opportunity to reclaim their pet. To reclaim an animal that is in the shelter, you need proof of ownership that may include pictures and veterinarian records. Please contact the animal shelter by telephone at 704-481-9884, press 0 to speak with an operator. Or, you can email the animal shelter at animal.shelter@clevelandcounty.com to let them know you plan to reclaim your pet. Owners have 72 hours to reclaim their pet before the animal is available for adoption. Owners will be required to pay fees to reclaim their animal that may include any citations for leash law violations or rabies tag violations and boarding.
