The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is the official voice of all 100 counties on issues being considered by the General Assembly, Congress and federal and state agencies. Recently, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners’ (NCACC) held its 112th Annual Conference and recognized Mary Accor and Cleveland County with awards.
The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners inducted Mary Accor into the NC County Commissioners' Hall of Fame. Mary Accor, a NCACC Past President (2009-2010) and former Cleveland County Commissioner, was honored with the NCACC Hall of Fame Award for undertaking a youth leadership development initiative during her year as president. Her initiative evolved into Youth Voice, which is now a key component of NCACC’s Annual Conference.
Cleveland County was also recognized with an Excellence in Innovation Award for the Accelerate Cleveland program. These awards are sponsored by the Local Government Federal Credit Union and are awarded to Counties for establishing innovative partnerships to improve services to citizens.
The goal of Accelerate Cleveland is to address the unmet workforce development potential of underemployed citizens. With record low unemployment and steady demand for highly skilled manufacturing employees, Cleveland County developed Accelerate Cleveland to train individuals who are underemployed for better paying jobs in the manufacturing industry.
Congratulations Mary and Accelerate Cleveland!
