                                                    Fire Reported at Cleveland County Landfill

SHELBY, NC – October 18, 2021 – This morning at approximately 6:40am, Cleveland County 911 received a call about a brush fire.  When trucks arrived on the scene, it was determined the fire was located on the Cleveland County Landfill property.  The fire has been contained and crews are continuing to fully extinguish the fire.  Residents and passersby may see smoke as crews continue to work the scene.   At this time, no injuries have been reported and there is no known source.  Officials will be working over the next several days to determine the exact cause of the fire.


The Self-McNeilly Landfill, off Fielding Road, will be closed until approximately 12:00pm today.   County officials have spoken with Gaston County about the situation.  Commercial and bulk waste can be taken to the Gaston County Landfill for disposal.  The Airport Road Landfill, which accepts Construction and Demolition Waste, and all convenience site locations are operating as normal at this time.
